Maria Joao Koehler
Michelle Larcher de Brito
Maria Joao Koehler won the first point against Susanne Celik, with a triumph by 6-3 and 6-4, but Brito Michelle could not repeat the feat and was defeated by Rebecca Peterson by 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.
However, the two tennis players joined the meeting of peers and won the Swedish double by 6-3, winning the first victory of Portugal, after Wednesday's defeat against Ukraine, 0-3.
Thus, the Portuguese destination is now pending the clash between Sweden and Ukraine, scheduled for Friday, with the winners of each group will be confronted by two places in the 'play-off` World Group II, while the worst of each group will cross to avoid relegation.
