Professional soccer club Sporting CP is causing Portuguese sports fans to go crazy over women’s soccer.
On Sunday, the club packed José Alvalade Stadium with 6, 535 roaring spectators—that’s more than most American pro clubs have ever hosted in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
This weekend, Sporting notched their 22nd victory in the Campeonato Nacional de Futebol Feminino, the Portuguese women’s professional soccer league. The women in green and white defeated Valadares 1-0 and walked off the field waving at a raving crowd.
