The Portuguese Fernando Pimenta won the gold medal in the K1 1000 event of the first World Cup taking place in Szeged, Hungary.
Benfica's canoeist closed the race with a time of 3.24.359, beating Hungarian Bálint Kopasz by 1.288 and Spaniard Roi Rodriguez by 1.892.
In K2 500, Teresa Portela and Joana Vasconcelos, also representing Benfica, won bronze after finishing the race on the podium behind New Zealanders Lisa Carrington / Kayla Imrie and Austrian Ana Roxana / Victoria Lehaci.
