Portugal with 19 riders in the Zurich Cycling and Paracycling World Championships
Portugal with 19 riders in the Zurich Cycling and Paracycling World Championships
The National Team will be represented by 19 riders in the Road Cycling and Paracycling World Championships, which will take place in Zurich, Switzerland, starting next weekend.
The competition will have selective courses, more in line with the characteristics of Portuguese riders than the recent European Championships, so the national participation will have renewed ambition to fight for good results.
The men's elite selected are Afonso Eulálio (ABTF Betão-Feirense), Ivo Oliveira, João Almeida and Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates), Nelson Oliveira (Movistar Team) and Rui Costa (EF Education-EasePost). The six will participate in the long-distance race on September 29. A week before, João Almeida and Nelson Oliveira will be the national weapons for the time trial.
The choices made by national coach José Poeira for the under-23s were Alexandre Montez (Credibom-LA Alumínios-Marcos Car), António Morgado (UAE Team Emirates), Daniel Lima (Israel Premier Tech Academy), Gonçalo Tavares (Hagens Berman Jayco) and Lucas Lopes (Supermercados Froiz). The five-man team will be aiming for the long-distance race on the 27th. António Morgado will also compete in the time trial on the 23rd.
Portugal will only be able to field two male juniors and the ones selected are Daniel Moreira (Willebrord Wil Vooruit) and José Miguel Moreira (Team Polti Kometa Junior), who will only compete in the long-distance race, scheduled for the 26th of September.
Daniela CamposIn the women's category, José Luis Algarra has called up four cyclists, who will only participate in the long-distance races. In the elite and under-23 categories, Ana Caramelo (Matos Mobility/Flexaco Cycling Team) and Daniela Campos (Eneicat-CMTeam) have been called up, and will compete on September 28th. Two days before, the juniors Maria Constança Marques and Raquel Dias (Tavira/Extremosul/SC Farense) will race.
The World Championships combine paracycling with cycling in the competition program. In the cycling for people with disabilities sector, José Marques called up Flávio Pacheco and Telmo Pinão (Efapel Cycling Academy). Both will compete in the long-distance races and individual time trials.
On the 24th, Flávio Pacheco will compete in the individual H4 class and Telmo Pinão in the C2 class. Telmo Pinão's long-distance race is scheduled for the 27th and Flávio Pacheco's for the 29th.
