Where was some of the best players of the World at the age of 34
Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates this Tuesday one more anniversary. At 34 years old, he is Juventus' top scorer and leads the table of the best scorers in the Italian league with 17 goals scored.
A record of those who shows no signs of slowing down with age and who becomes more significant when compared to some of the names that marked the history of world football were to do with the same age.
Let us return to 1976, the year that Eusébio da Silva Ferreira celebrated his 34th birthday. One of the great names of Portuguese football, the Black Panther signed for Beira-Mar after an incursion into the North American continent (Boston Minutemen, Monterrey and Toronto Metros-Croatia). He ended up scoring three goals in 12 games for the Aveiro.
Already Pelé was serving the last season in Santos' service in 1975. He scored 14 goals in 34 matches and eventually left Fish for the New York Cosmos, which was the only experience outside Brazilian football.
Diego Armando Maradona was returning to Bombonera. For Boca Juniors he scored five goals in 24 games in 1994. There followed seven appearances in the following two seasons, the last of his career.
In 1981, Johan Cruyff was going through a more discreet phase of his career. He had just signed for Milan after a season with Levante. He ended up not playing any game for the Italian emblem, returning later that year to Ajax, where he served three more seasons before retiring.
At age 34, Ronaldo 'the phenomenon' was returning to Brazil. He scored 12 goals in 27 games for Corinthians in 2010, and ended up hanging his boots the following season.
Finally, Zinedine Zidane was making the final season of his career. He made 38 appearances with Real Madrid and ended up appearing in the French team that missed the 2006 World Cup final against Italy.
