Giro: João Almeida will debut on the Giro of Italy
Portuguese cyclist João Almeida will debut on a great lap after Deceuninck-QuickStep put him in training for the Tour of Italy, the Belgian team announced today.
At 22, João Almeida is having an excellent debut season in a WorldTour team, with outstanding results, with ninth place in Volta ao Algarve and third in Volta a Burgos and Settimana Internazionale Coppi and Bartali.
In 2018, João Almeida was runner-up in the Giro Ciclístico d'Italia, the under-23 race in the Tour of Italy.
Alongside the cyclist from Caldas da Rainha will be Colombian Alvaro Hodeg, another rookie in one of the three great cyclists , in addition to the Italian Davide Ballerini and Fausto Masnada, the Danish Mikkel Honoré, the British James Knox and the Belgian Iljo Keisse and Pieter Serry.
The 103rd edition of the Volta a Itália takes place from Saturday to October 25, after being postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic.
