British Mark Cavendish (Deceunick Quick-Step) won this Tuesday the fourth stage of the Tour'2021, a stage that Brent Van Moer (Lotto – Soudal) was up to very close to the finish line at the front of the race. The 36-year-old cyclist took the 31st stage victory of the Tour'2021, he being the second biggest stage winner of the Tour, three victories to equal the record of Eddy Merckx (34).
This is the British rider's first victory on the Tour (and in the three big laps) since 2016. Remember that Mark Cavendish hadn't been to the Tour for three years and was very close to quitting at the beginning of this season because he didn't have a team. The Brit ended up 'offering' to Deceunick Quick-Step, managed to get sponsorship and was picked up to replace Irishman Sam Bennett, winner of the last edition of the Tour de France points classification, due to a right knee injury.
