Another Portuguese to leave a mark around the world. At dawn this Monday, Renato Paiva made history by taking his Independiente del Valle to the first Ecuadorian title in its history. The championship was won after a 1-1 draw, at the home of favorites Emelec, in the second leg of the final. Over an authentic deluge, Renato Paiva's team managed to sustain the opposing pressure and reach the goal first, practically sentencing the final after eight minutes, by Richard Schunke. The draw came just close to half-time after Emelec missed a penalty. The second half, which started late due to the heavy rain felt in Guayaquil, had no more goals and the first championship in the history of Independiente del Valle, who had won the first leg of the final (3x1) at home, was completed. Renato Paiva made history and put the Portuguese flag high again!
