Benfica is one of the eight seeded in the draw League group stage Champions 2015/16 in football, along with Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Zenit and PSV, reported Monday the UEFA.
These eight teams will be part of the first pot of the draw of the Champions League, to be held in Monaco on 28 August, following the changes in the definition of a proposal seeding made in 2014 by the Competition Committee of UEFA subsequently approved by the Executive Committee.
The change, already included in the tournament regulations for the season 2015/16, considers seeded seven national champions of the leagues of the seven federations with better coefficient of European football: Spain, England, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France and Russia .
The eighth seeded would be the holder of the trophy, but since both the Barcelona and Juventus, the two finalists of the current edition, won the Spanish and Italian League, respectively, UEFA will include the pot 1 PSV Eindhoven, Dutch champion, which is part of the eighth federation UEFA ranking.
So far the distribution of teams by pots was made on the basis of coefficients of each team based on the results of each club in the last five seasons in either the Champions League or the Europa League.
