The Portuguese Maria Martins was today the 44th in the junior women's competition of the World Road Championship in Bergen, Norway.

After seventh place in the European Championship, Maria Martins felt some difficulties in a more undulating terrain., Along 76.4 kilometers

The Portuguese runner still managed to finish in the first half of the table, since they had started 92 runners.

Maria Martins spent more 8m52s than the Italian Elena Pirrone, who attacked on the penultimate lap and managed to get isolated to the goal. The first group reached 12 seconds, with Emma Jorgensen of Denmark in second place and transalpine Letisse Paternoster to close the podium.

"The sensations were not bad, but they were not the best either. The race was very intense and I felt that I still have to lose some weight to be better on this terrain," admitted Maria Martins at the end of the race
