Benfica is five-time women's water polo champion
Benfica today won the title of Portuguese women's water polo champion 2023/24. The Luz team beat Fluvial Portuense 14-8 (1-4; 3-0; 4-2; 6-2), in the third decisive game of the play-off, held in Algés.
Fluvial, coached by Nuno Marques, who had won the 2nd play-off game 16-3, started the game better, having taken a 4-1 lead in the first half.
The red team led by António Machado reacted, scoring 3-0 in the second period to tie the match.
In the third half, the Benfica team took the lead of the match with a 4-2 partial, maintaining a 6-2 partial in the final period for the final result of 14 x 8.

Benfica has won five trophies in its history in 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24. In 2019/20 the championship was canceled due to the pandemic.
In a championship that began in 1989, Fluvial Portuense has 12 national women's titles in its history: 2003 to 2008; 2012 and 2013 and 2015 to 2018.
