The canoe Sérgio Maciel was crowned champion of Europe under-23 in C1 marathons this Friday, raising to three the podiums of Portugal in the competition that runs until Sunday in Moscow.

Sérgio Maciel finished the course in 1:51.11, beating Hungarians Daniel Laczo and Mate Zsidai by 1.38 and 4.33 minutes, respectively.

On Thursday, José Ramalho was European champion in the 'short race' of K1, while junior Tomás Sousa was bronze in C1.

Sérgio Maciel was European Junior Champion in 2016 and World Under-23 Champion in 2018, and this Friday's title is his ninth international podium between Europeans and World Cups alone.

In the least participated Europeans in recent years, due to the covid-19 pandemic, Portugal has two more races this Friday, with K1 under-23 Adriano Conceição and Maria Gomes.
