The Portuguese João Costa secured this Monday a place at the Paris '2024 Olympic Games, by breaking the national record of 100 meters backstroke in the qualifiers of the Swimming Worlds, which are taking place in Fukuoka, Japan.
The Vitória de Guimarães swimmer swam the distance in 53.71 seconds, below the Olympic qualifying mark (53.74), also improving his previous national record, which was 53.87, and qualifying for the semi-finals.
