In the 2nd round of Group B of the qualifying phase of the 2023/24 Challenger Cup, Benfica's women's water polo team achieved its first European victory, beating Asten Strakonice, 13-17, this Saturday, 21st of October, in Czechia.
History is made! The triumph of the team led by António Machado against the Czech team is the Club's first ever in European competitions.
And the game didn't even get off to a good start for the red players, as at the end of the first period, the result was in favor of the Czechs (3-1).
But in the second quarter, driven by Noelia Perez's goalscoring streak (4 goals), the Eagles took the lead (6-8), and never lost their lead on the scoreboard.
The third quarter was marked by maximum balance (3-3), which, naturally, was in favor of Benfica, which, therefore, continued ahead (9-11).
In the last quarter, Noelia Perez stood out again, with four of the Reds' six goals (the match ended with nine goals scored), which they won 13-17, sealing their first European victory ever!
Note also the fact that Madalena Lousa scored six goals, with the other two coming from Inês Nunes and Joana Arromba.
Noelia Perez (9), Madalena Lousa (6),
Joana Arromba (1) e Inês Nunes (1)
