The Portuguese women's under-20 volleyball team qualified this Sunday for the first time for a European Championship in the category, by beating the Netherlands 3-2, in Barcelos, at the end of Group E of the second qualifying phase.


Portugal won 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21 and 17-15, at the Pavilhão Desportivo Colégio La Salle, in Barcelos, and finished the group in first place, which earned them direct qualification, ahead of the Netherlands, Hungary and Norway.


In the decision in the 'black', the Portuguese team was losing 7-4, managed to recover and take the lead at 10-9 and after the Dutch returned to the lead, at 12-11, they won the ' set' and in the game at 17-15.


Inês Costa, with 21 points, Maria Coelho, with 15, and Joana Garcez, with 13, were the main scorers for the Portuguese team. In the Netherlands, Yike Jelsma, with 28 points, was the featured player in the finals chapter.
