The athlete from Braga, four-time national champion, made her debut in the senior category and, after a successful run in the under-20 and under-23 categories, with bronze medals in each category, covered the distance of 7,832 metres in 26.13 minutes, helping the Portuguese team to achieve a good ninth place, after two years in which there were no Portuguese athletes in the senior category.
Laura Taborda, in 34th (27.07), and Marta Pen, in 50th (27.41), closed Portugal's accounts, with Vanessa Carvalho 55th (27.49), Neide Dias 58th (28.03) and Solange Jesus 69th (28.28) no longer scoring points for the collective table.
Men's Division Miguel Moreira was 13th
Miguel Moreira finished 13th in the senior men's race at the European Cross Country Championships in Antalya, Turkey, this Sunday, the best result for a Portuguese athlete in the competition since 2010.
The 24-year-old Benfica athlete, who was crowned national champion this year, was competing for the second time as a senior, after finishing 34th last year. In collective terms, Portugal repeated last year's 10th place - scoring points for the team's 115 points, in addition to Miguel Moreira, André Pereira (43rd, in 23.31) and Etson Barros (59th, in 23.56). The remaining Portuguese athletes, already out of the team's points, were João Pereira (62nd, in 24.02), Nuno Pereira (68th, in 24.16) and Ruben Amaral (70th, in 24.24).
Under-23 men's competition, with Benfica athlete João Amaro finishing in 21st place, covering the 6,324 metres in 19.04 minutes, one second faster than Sporting's Duarte Santos, who finished in the next position (22nd).
Portugal collectively finished in eighth place, with 85 points, although João Pais did not get any higher than 42nd place (19.23), Leandro Monteiro in 51st (19.44) and Ruben Pires in 57th (19.53), in a race in which Pedro Amaro, João Amaro's twin brother, did not take part due to injury.
The Portuguese Athletics Federation will be present at the European Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Antalya (Turkey) on December 8, with full teams in the six events on the programme.
Based on the criteria defined and published in due time, as proposed by the National Technical Director and approved by the management, the Portuguese Athletics Federation invites the following athletes:
