Isaac Nader won the Lisbon São Silvestre on Saturday night, setting a new Portuguese record for the 10-kilometre race, the distance of the race with the start and finish line on Avenida da Liberdade, in the heart of the capital.


The Benfica athlete ran the distance in 28.03 minutes, taking five seconds off the previous best national time (28.08), which belonged to Duarte Gomes, who also competed in the Lisbon race, recorded on 16 November this year, in Lille, France.


The women's race was won by Salomé Afonso, with a time of 32.18 minutes, with the Benfica athlete finishing ahead of the men's elite thanks to a five-minute head start, winning the traditional clash between men and women of the Lisbon São Silvestre by 45 seconds.


Among the men, Benfica dominated the race, monopolizing the podium. Right behind Nader, who won for the second year in a row, José Carlos Pinto, also an athlete from the Eagles club, came in second place, with a time of 28.07 minutes, and another red player, Miguel Moreira, came in third, in 28.12.


Among the women, winner Salomé Afonso (Benfica) was followed by Solange Jesus, an athlete from Sporting de Braga, winner in 2023 and this year second place with a time of 34.15 minutes, and closing the podium was Carla Martinho, from Recreio Desportivo de Águeda, in third, with 34.17
