The 3rd edition of the São Silvestre El Corte Inglés race brought a different colour to the streets of Lisbon this Sunday and was marked by a series of records, even though the event was supported by Record. The number of participants stood out, with 10,800 people signing up, a real crowd that turned up in force at Praça do Saldanha (just to give you an idea, the last people to start the stopwatch crossed the starting line 8 minutes after Carlos Moedas fired the shot).
Then, despite the cold and wind in certain parts of the route, Nuno Pereira (Sporting) broke the record of the 2023 winner – Said Ameqrane, 3rd this year – and set a new course record with 29m12s. The same happened in the women's sector, with Susana Cunha (RD Águeda) finishing in 35m01s, well below the record set by Joana Fonseca last year.
The cherry on the cake was the 10km world record (65-69 age group) that Rosa Mota set, with 38m37s. At 66 years of age, the 1988 Olympic champion improved the previous record, which she had set in Valencia last January.
