Ziqin Shao is a new signing for Benfica's women's football team for the 2026/27 season, having signed a contract running until 2029. After signing the agreement and donning the "Sacred Mantle," the 23-year-old Chinese international forward (born February 24, 2003) expressed her excitement in her first remarks.
"This is very important to me. It represents a major challenge for my career. Benfica is a great club with a long history. It is a significant step forward in my career," she said.
Considered one of the best players in her home country, Shao concluded her contract with Jiangsu Yinhao Football Club—a prestigious team that finished as runners-up in the most recent edition of the Chinese Championship—in December 2025. The forward—one of three finalists recently nominated for the 2025 Chinese Footballer of the Year award—attracted interest from several European clubs but was ultimately recruited by SL Benfica, in a proactive market move designed to shape the squad for the upcoming season
