Cândido Barbosa, president of the Portuguese Cycling Federation, confirmed today, at the unveiling of the Jogos Santa Casa as the main sponsor of the 87th edition of the Volta a Portugal, that he has submitted to the International Cycling Union (UCI) a request to climb the ladder in 100 years of existence.

"I made a request to the ICU. It is not the year that is normally available to the ICU, it usually is two in two years, but we use the excess rule, given that next year is the centenary and we would love to be up there," the federation president revealed held at the Holy House of Mercy in Lisbon.

One of the two trumps the federation leader presents is the fact that Eurosport is getting into action, broadcasting the Portuguese Tour, Volta a Portugal in 72 countries. "To FPC is to to give sinais,  to the cushion so that really to ICU perceives that this will be  the way " "That is one of two requirements that UCI values quite a bit and that we would also love to be able to get other countries to offer this guarantee [of return] to all the teams that participated here," he added.

On the course of the Volta, which starts on August 5 and ends in Porto on August 16, Cândido Barbosa reveals that it is "ultimately some situations", but promises that it will "link north to south and coast to inland" "The stages are relatively all dated, we have some things pending. Or pending doesn't mean we're about to date. Day 8 we reveal everything," he guarantees.

The final presentation of these departures and chegadas is scheduled for the 8th of this month in Senhora da Graça, in Mondim de Basto

Pure excitement to date the first day of the two National Cycling Championships that were contested in Guarda. António Morgado (Emirates) becomes tri-champion and beats Rafael Reis (Anicolor) by just over 1 second!

The 22-year-old equals José Azevedo's number of titles (3), now just behind Joaquim Agostinho (6) and Nelson Oliveira (4). He completed the 27.7 kilometers at Casal de Cinza in 33.15 minutes, finishing with an average speed of 48,701 km/h.

Afonso Eulalio to compete on sunday on the 181.5 kma

This first day starts at 2pm, and, first two male elites, compete for the national titles of counter-racing in paracycling, master, under-23 and female elites and, then, the under-23 male. These run a more reduced course in Casal de Cinza - 21.6 kilometers.

On Sunday, it is Ivo Oliveira who defends the national championship jersey, but Morgado will also start as the main favorite to prove his bottom. However, there will be other names and the one that stands out most is that of Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain). The best young man of the last edition of the Volta in Italy (ranked 6th) is in good form and has a course (181.5 km) that suits his characteristics well. This test bad counts with a platoon of 45 runners.
