Portugal now with a total of 9 medals
The Portuguese Telma Monteiro won, on Thursday, the gold medal in judo (category -57 kg), winning the final Hungarian Hdvig Karakas, by ippon.
Leader of the world rankings in the category, Telma Monteiro thus confirming the favoritism, having started the competition taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, with wins over the Serbian Jovana Rogic (gold point), the Dutch Sanne Verhagen (for Shido) and French Automme Pavia (by waza-ari).
Portugal will thus be adding nine medals in these European games, third gold, after the conquests of Rui Bragança (-58 kg) in taekwondo and teams for table tennis (Marcos Freitas, Tiago Apolonia and João Geraldo).
The rest were won by João Silva (triathlon), João Costa (shot) and Fernando Pimenta (in K1 1000 and 5000 meters in canoeing), all of silver, while Julio Ferreira (-80 kg taekwondo) and double Beatriz Martins / Ana Rente (synchronized trampoline) won bronze medals.
