U 21 #Portugal qualified for #Rio2016 #ForcaPortugal

The last time Portugal was represented at the Olympic football tournament was in Athens in 2004, through a selection with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Alves, Danny, Hugo Almeida, Hugo Viana, Bosingwa, Raul Meireles and Ricardo Costa, among others .

Portugal lost to Iraq and Costa Rica (both games ended with a 2-4) and beat Morocco 2-1. The three points were not enough to pass the group stage.

In 1996, the Olympic Games in Atlanta, the team of Quinas did an excellent tournament, reaching the fourth place. A team which included, among others, the current national coach of U21, Rui Jorge, Portugal lost the semi-final with Argentina. In the game of allocating the bronze medal Portugal suffered a heavy defeat (0-5) against Brazil's Ronaldo Nazario.

The first Portuguese participation went back to the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928. After beating Yugoslavia 2-1 in the first round (equivalent to current eighth of end) Portugal fell to 1-2 against the selection of Egypt.

The National Selection U-21 managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro to reach, late on Wednesday, the League Cup semi-final sub-21 in Europe.

After the win against England and draws against Italy and Sweden, Portugal still assured tonight a series of 13 games unbeaten.

Portugal, Germany, Sweden and Denmark are the European teams present in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
