The Portuguese swimmer was the 11 qualifiers, returning to meet the minimum A for the 2016 Olympic Games, with the 1.59,61 minute mark.
The American Ryan Lochte was the fastest qualifier with 1.57,90 minutes.
The semi-finals of the 200 meters styles are scheduled for 16.30 on Wednesday.
Ana Catarina Monteiro managed the 24th time in qualifying of the 200 meters butterfly, swimming in 2.12,87 minutes.
