Mário Gomes is the fourth national coach chosen by FPB in the last decade. Previously, Valentyn Melnychuk (between 2003 and 2007), the Spaniard Moncho López (2008-2010) and Mario Palma (2011-2016) were in charge of this position.
As the club's main coach, Gomes began his career at Algés, having also played for Benfica and Barreirense.
Mário Gomes's first game will be played in August this year, with Portugal participating in the pre-qualifying round for the World Cup in 2019 and in which the team will face Belarus and Bulgaria
