"I am pleased with myself and the country, thank you all for the support, it was very important for me to hear about Portugal at the Winter Olympics," said Hanse, in a statement reproduced by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP).

The Portuguese, born in Paris and resident in France, finished the race in 1.58.61 minutes, 19.62 seconds more than the winner, the Swedish André Myhrer.

Hanse completed the first heat in 58.26 seconds, which earned him the 46th place, and the second in 1.00.35 minutes, finishing the 38th event, among 106 participants, of which 43 finished the race. Among those eliminated in the first descent, was the Timorese Yohan Goutt Gonçalves.

This is the sixth best Portuguese classification in Olympic Winter Games editions, in a list led by Mafalda Queiroz Pereira's 21st place in acrobatic skiing in Nagano1998 and 25th in the male bobsleigh quartet (António Reis, João Pires, João Poupada and Rogério Bernardes) in Calgary1998.

Following the 31st place of Fausto Marreiros in the 5,000 meters in speed skating and the 32nd in the slalom of Georges Mendes, both in Lillehamer1994, and the 34th in the men's bobsleigh pair (António Reis and João Poupada) also in 1998.
