Team Portugal competes with 14 runners in the European Road Championship, which takes place in Plouay, in the French region of Brittany, between 24 and 28 August.
In the top category, José Poeira will feature Ivo Oliveira, Rui Oliveira and Rui Costa (UAE Team Emirates), Rafael Reis (Feirense), Rafael Silva (Efapel) and Rúben Guerreiro (EF Education First).
The under-23 team will be formed by Afonso Silva (Rádio Popular-Boavista), Miguel Salgueiro (LA Alumínios-LA Sport), Guilherme Mota and Pedro Miguel Lopes (Kelly / InOutBuild / UDO). The national colors are also defended by four junior runners, two women, Beatriz Roxo (NRV? Paredes Cycling Academy) and Daniela Campos, and two men, Fábio Fernandes (Efapel? Escola de Ovar) and João Ferreira (Academia Joaquim Agostinho / CYR / UDO).
The program opens next Monday, the day of the time trial. Contrary to what is usual, the route is the same for all categories, 25.6 kilometers, with some tops. The Portugal Team will be represented by junior Daniela Campos, whose race takes place between 8 am and 9:20 am, and by elite cyclists Rafael Reis and Rui Costa. The elite time trial takes place between 3:10 pm and 4:15 pm and is broadcast live on Eurosport.
On Wednesday, August 26, the elite fund race will begin, starting at 11 am. The main squad of the European Championship will complete 13 laps at the Plouay circuit, totaling 177.45 kilometers and a cumulative climb of 2535 meters. The circuit, practically without flat terrain, not for climbers, will leave some fast men in difficulties. This race will also be broadcast on Eurosport.
The sub-23 will compete i the next day, between 8 am and 11 am. The youngsters will cover ten laps of the circuit, a total of 136.6 kilometers and 1950 meters accumulated.
National participation ends on Friday, August 28. Between 8:00 am and 9:45 am, it is the turn of Beatriz Roxo and Daniela Campos to cycle along 68.25 kilometers. From 10:20 am to 1:00 pm, Fábio Fernandes and João Ferreira will face the 109.2 kilometers of the men's junior competition.
