American investors are increasingly turning their bets to European football. According to a study by the consultancy KPMG, some of the wealthiest entrepreneurs and companies in the United States already control a fifth of 60 clubs in the championships of England, Italy and France.

Kyle Krause, whose family fortune was built in the Kum & Go convenience store chain, became owner of Parma in September, joining the millionaire Dan Friedkin, owner of a Toyota dealer network, to buy AS Roma in a business valued at 591 million euros.

In 2019, the Italian-American Rocco B. Commisso, CEO of the operator MediaCom and owner of New York Cosmos, bought Fiorentina for funds of around 150 to 200 million euros. These businesses are joined by the acquisition of the Elliot Management fund, which in 2018 bought 99.93% of AC Milan's shares.

In France, RedBird Capital Partners, founded by former Goldman Sachs partner Gerry Cardinale, bought a majority stake in Toulouse FC, which currently plays in the second division. It should be recalled that in 2016, businessman Frank McCourt became the new owner of Olympique de Marseille, after offering 45 million euros to his predecessor, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus.

Another North American investor attracted to European football is Joseph DaGrosa, founder of private equity, MapleWood Partners, who is in talks to buy Southampton from the Premier League. Moreover, the businessman sold his share in the French of Bordeaux to the American investment manager King Street Capital.

The current owner of Southampton, the Chinese businessman Gao Jisheng, intends on about 220 million euros to sell the club, according to anonymous sources revealed to "Bloomberg". Joseph DaGrosa intends to reproduce the model of the City Football Group, which has stakes in 10 teams, such as Manchester City.

“We want to create a football platform that can go public and attract institutional investors and obtain a multi-billion dollar valuation. There is nothing better than the Premier League, ”DaGrosa said in a telephone interview earlier this year to“ Bloomberg ”.

The attraction of American investors is going to last. The American businessman linked to the media Henry Mauriss, was at the beginning of the year to evaluate an offer for Newcastle United, that currently belongs to a consortium of Saudi Arabia.

In addition to these ongoing businesses, it should be noted that some of the major clubs in the English League are already owned by US investors, as is the case with Stan Kroenke, owner of Arsenal, Fenwway Sports Group, Liverpool or the Glazer family, in the Manchester United.https://www.abola.pt/economia/2020-11-16/investidores-americanos-ja-controlam-um-quinto-de-60-clubes-de-inglaterra-italia/664834
