Brazilian Marcelo Gabriel (Porminho Team Under-23) won today the first stage of the Volta a Portugal do Futuro and is the first yellow jersey of the competition that started with a stage of 133 kilometers, starting and ending in Águeda.
The tirade, without great mountain difficulties, decided to sprint. Marcelo Gabriel was the fastest, relegating Tiago Vale Ferreira (JV Perfis/Gondomar Cultural/Windmob) and José Sousa (Kelly-Simoldes-UDO) to the immediate positions, in a dispute marked by a violent fall at the head of the squad.
The 133 kilometers were covered by the first classified at high speed. The peloton was credited with 3h03m36s, that is, the strongest of the day completed the trip at an average of 43.464 km/h.
The stage, was animated, above all, by Sicasal/Miticar/Torres Vedras. The team from Torres tried to mess with the race right from the start, putting two elements, Francisco Guerreiro and Francisco Pereira, on the run, after covering a little more than 20 kilometers. Rúben Guerreiro's brother took the opportunity to win two of the four mountain prizes of the journey, assuming command of the climbers' general, but the peloton did not allow for the success of the escape.
Marcelo Gabriel, in addition to commanding the overall standings, is first in the rankings for points and youth. Kelly-Simoldes-UDO is at the top of the collective general.
