The Portuguese women's under-19 basketball team will compete in Group B of the World Cup, between July 12 and 20 in Brno, Czech Republic, facing Nigeria, Canada and China, according to the draw this Tuesday.
Canada was a bronze medalist in the last world championship, in 2023 in Spain, and in 2017, while China was third in 2005. The United States, which defends the title, is in pool A along with Israel, Hungary and South Korea, Australia is in Group C with France, Brazil and Mali, while Spain is in Group D with the Czech Republic, Japan and Argentina. Portugal, which makes its debut in the competition, qualified with the historic fifth place of Agostinho Pinto's pupils in division A of the under-18 European Championship which took place in 2024 in Matosinhos. The United States leads all-time with 10 titles, including the last three, followed by the Soviet Union with two, while Russia, Australia and the Czech Republic have won once.
