Benfica won their first Ramón Carranza trophy in 1963. After beating FC Barcelona 3-2 in the semi-finals, the Reds defeated Fiorentina 7-3 after extra time to win the prestigious pre-season tournament.

Winning, for the second time, the prestigious Ramón de Carranza Trophy, which was contested on August 29, 1971, in the final of the 17th edition.

Benfica beat CA Peñarol in the final of the 1971 Ramón de Carranza Trophy. The final score was 3–0.
