Historic day for Portuguese Tennis
Gastao Elias, Pedro Sousa, Frederico Silva e Joao Domingues qualified to the 2nd round
it could been 5 but our best Tennis player Joao Sousa didn't make it

Tennis in Portugal continues to gain popularity, but it is with news like today that really boost the modality of the yellow ball in Portugal . For the first time in the history of the men's circuit we have four Portuguese in the main frame of an ATP tournament.

Gastão Elias, Frederico Silva, João Domingues and Pedro Sousa are today named Portugal, on a day when they are marked by the first victories in tournaments of this category of Domingues and Sousa.

The closest we had been was in 2008 and 2010, when there were three Portuguese in the main frame of the old Estoril Open, at that time played at Jamor. Rui Machado, Fred Gil and João Sousa represented the corners in 2008, and in 2010 Rui, Fred and Leonardo Tavares repeated the feat.

This Wednesday and Thursday can continue to be written another page in the history of Portuguese tennis, if Domingues, Elias, Silva and Sousa win their respective matches. In 2008 and 2010 we had two 100% Portuguese matches in the quarter-finals of the old Estoril Open, but with the tennis we are watching this week, anything is possible. Are we going to make more history? Come to the Millennium Estoril Open and support the Portuguese tennis players.

  • Gastão Elias vs Nicolas Almagro
  • João Domingues vs Kevin Anderson
  • Frederico Silva vs David Ferrer
  • Pedro Sousa vs Gilles Muller
