Patricia Silva 800 meters is the 50th Portuguese to qualified 

Portugal will present itself with a record 49 representatives at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, in Rome, with Pedro Pablo Pichardo defending the title, but without the injured Auriol Dongmo and Patrícia Mamona.


The triple jump Olympic champion returns to represent Portugal, after absences from the outdoor World Championships in Budapest'2023 and the indoor world championships in Glasgow'2024, to try to revalidate the title won in Munich2022.


Portugal has 38 medals in European athletics, 16 of which are gold, by Rosa Mota, in the marathon, in Athens1982, Stuttgart'1986 and Split'1990, by Manuela Machado, in the marathon, in Helsinki'1994 and Budapest'1998, by Fernanda Ribeiro, in the 10,000 meters, in Helsinki'1994, by António Pinto, in the 10,000 meters, in Helsinki'1994.

In the 21st century, by Francis Obikwelu, in the 100 meters, in Munich'2002 and Gothenburg'2006, and in the 200 meters, in Gothenburg'2006, by Dulce Félix, in the 10,000 meters, in Helsinki'2012, by Patrícia Mamona, in triple jump, in Amsterdam'2016, by Sara Moreira, in the half marathon, in Amsterdam'2016, by Nelson Évora, in the triple jump, in Berlin'2018, by Inês Henriques, in the 50 kilometer walk, in Berlin'2018, and by Pedro Pichardo, in the triple, in Munich'2022.

In their 24 appearances - Portugal had no athletes in Oslo'1946 - they also climbed the podium 24 times, winning 14 silver medals and eight bronze medals.
