The FPA hopes to assemble a delegation of 40 athletes ln the 8th of December for the men's and women's under-20, under-23 and elite events, as well as for the senior mixed 4x1,500-metre relay, thus surpassing the 19 athletes who represented Portugal at the 2023 European Championships in Brussels, without full teams and without any representation in the women's elite.
Although cross-country has been a "declining" athletics discipline in recent years, the director considered it important to take full teams to Turkey, especially to give young people "opportunities to compete around the world" and "reach the highest possible level".
The European Athletics Council has awarded the 2024 SPAR European Cross Country Championships to Antalya in Türkiye on Saturday . This will be the first time in event history that Türkiye will have staged the championships which are scheduled to take place on 8 December 2024.
