Isaac Nader, a Benfica athlete, won the men's race at São Silvestre de Lisboa with a new national record for the 10 kilometers, running the distance in 28.03 minutes. With this record, the red-and-black Olympian improves Duarte Gomes' mark by 5 seconds, set in mid-November, in Lille (28.08).

The women's race was won by Salomé Afonso, clocking 32.18 minutes, and the Benfica athlete arrived ahead of the men's elite thanks to her five-minute lead in the match, thus winning the traditional clash between men and women in the capital's São Silvestre.

Among the men, Benfica completely dominated, as José Carlos Pinto climbed to second place on the podium, with a time of 28.06 minutes, and Miguel Moreira was third, in 28.12. Of this trio, Pinto manages to jump to 2nd place in the list of the best Portuguese of all time - he surpasses the previous national record holder Duarte Gomes -, while Miguel Moreira equals Samuel Barata in 5th place (behind the legendary Fernando Mamede, who is now 4th) , with its 28.12.
