Vasco Matos will not coach Botafogo and has just renewed until 2027 with Santa Clara a team of 16 Brazilians on the roster, 10 Portuguese players and 1 Peru.
After having everything agreed between Santa Clara, the coach and the Brazilian club, Botafogo was unable to provide guarantees regarding the equivalence of his coaching level – Vasco Matos has a UEFA A license. With Conmebol, which would create limitations on the Lisbon coach's duties in competitions such as the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup.
The scenario changed this morning and given the changes in the contract compared to what was initially agreed, the coach declined to go to Brazil, instead he signed with Santa Clara until 2027.
However, Santa Clara announced the renewal of the contract with the coach for another season, until June 2027.

Vasco Matos is chosen by John Textor to succeed Artur Jorge in charge of Botafogo and is already in negotiations with the 44-year-old Portuguese coach, after the North American businessman informed Santa Clara that he will pay the coach's release clause, set at one million euros.
