In the men's race, Rúben Amaral, with a time of 29.28 minutes, improved the record of 30.19 with which he won the 2023 race and once again surpassed the competition, beating Fearghal Curtin, from Ireland, (29.31) and André Pereira, athlete from Benfica (29.35), second and third, respectively.
Athlete Rúben Amaral was "very happy" this Tuesday for revalidating the victory of São Silvestre da Amadora and ending 2024 "on a high note", while Mariana Vargem admitted that winning was "the best way" to debut in the race.
In the men's sector, the race was based on balance and victory was disputed by a group of five athletes at the intermediate point (passing five kilometers), but Rúben Amaral, like the 2023 edition, once again proved stronger and repeated the last year's triumph.
Mariana Vargem succeeded Ana Mafalda Ferreira, three times winner of the female variant, and highlighted the long history of São Silvestre da Amadora to reinforce her pride in the success she achieved.
"It's, without a doubt, the best way to end the year. I decided about a week and a half ago that I was going to do this race, I went to São Silvestre in Lisbon and as I felt good, I took advantage and came here to give it my all. I wasn't expecting to win, but I'm very happy with this result”, he told Lusa, moments before climbing the podium after winning the race in 34.41 minutes, beating Emília Pisoeiro (35.01) and Susana Cunha (35.43), both linked to Recreio de Águeda
